Mr Matthew Welck

Mr Matthew Welck is a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon, practising exclusively within the field of foot and ankle surgery across North London and Central London. He graduated from the University of Leeds with a medical degree, a First Class Honours Bachelor of Science with Distinction, and a Master of Science degree. He is double fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery, including a combined clinical and research fellowship at the internationally renowned Foot and Ankle Institute in Baltimore, USA.

Mr Welck practises exclusively in foot and ankle surgery. This singular subspecialist focus means patients receive the highest level of dedicated expertise available in London. He treats patients from across the United Kingdom and internationally, including those referred with failed previous surgery, complex deformity, advanced ankle arthritis, and high-level sports injuries.

Professional Roles

Mr Welck is an Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at University College London (UCL) and is actively involved in national and international foot and ankle research. With more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, an h-index of 22, and over 1,700 citations, his academic output spans hallux valgus biomechanics, weightbearing CT imaging, ankle replacement, cavovarus foot reconstruction, and the management of rare foot conditions. His research has been presented at major orthopaedic conferences worldwide and has won numerous national and international prizes.

Mr Welck convenes and teaches on several national training courses, contributing to the education of surgeons and trainees in advanced foot and ankle techniques. He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (BOFAS) and practises as part of the Stanmore Foot & Ankle Specialists group at the RNOH — one of the UK’s premier multidisciplinary foot and ankle teams.
