Biography

Mr Babar Kayani

His strong academic background complements his evidence-based clinical practice in delivering patient-centred care. Mr Kayani is part of the multidisciplinary team in the Joint Reconstruction Unit, which receives national referrals for the full spectrum of hip and knee pathology.

Mr Kayani has a strong research interest and completed his PhD on the effects of robotic technology on perioperative outcomes in total knee arthroplasty at University College London. He has published over 140 peer-reviewed publications and delivered over 250 national or international presentations on hip and knee pathology. Mr Kayani was the principal investigator for five randomised controlled trials at University College London and has supervised research students from Imperial College London and University College London.

Mr Kayani is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS England) and a member of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA). He is a board member of the Bone and Joint Journal.

02Education and training

He qualified from Imperial College School of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic training on the Percivall Pott orthopaedic residency programme. Following this, he completed an internationally renowned fellowship in complex primary and revision hip and knee replacements at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He then undertook advanced training in robotic surgery by completing a high-volume fellowship in robotic hip and knee replacements at University College Hospital, London.
