Amputation and Prosthetic Rehabilitation Service

Our highly specialised multi-disciplinary team provides rehabilitation for people prior to, during and following an amputation, and for people who are born with congenital limb differences.

Our team has a wealth of experience in managing patients with single and multi-level limb absence, including both upper and lower limbs. We also have experience in the management of a wide range of amputation techniques including rehabilitation following osseo-integration implants.

Our Services

Consultation

During your initial consultation you will be evaluated by a multidisciplinary team, this will include a consultant in rehabilitation medicine, physiotherapist and prosthetist. Depending on your individual needs, you may also be seen by our occupational therapists. Our Rehabilitation Consultant will begin with a comprehensive review of your medical history and current medications to understand your health background fully. Following this, the team will conduct a physical and functional assessment to further inform our recommendations for treatment. You will receive a detailed report outlining our assessment findings, and we will make sure  receive the information you need throughout the process. Through this collaborative approach we aim to empower you to make informed decisions about your care.

Rehabilitation

At RNOH Private Care, we provide tailored care for all our patients. You will be assessed by a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team allowing us  to tailor your rehabilitation and prosthetic healthcare journey according to your specific needs and goals.

We offer the opportunity  to complete your rehabilitation as part of a residential stay or to attend appointments as an outpatient. Here at RNOH Private Care, not only will you have access to our highly specialist team, but also a range of specialist equipment and facilities, including the Motor Learning lab, Vector Gait System and the on-site Aspire Leisure Centre.

Our dedicated therapy team, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists and rehabilitation assistants are committed to supporting you throughout your journey. Whether it is pre-prosthetic training, prosthetic gait and balance re-education or specialist wheelchair skills, we tailor the intensity of your rehabilitation to meet your specific needs. Your rehabilitation will be supplemented at every stage with specialist treatment for pain, surgical scarring and post-operative swelling. As part of your healthcare journey, you will be provided with an individualised exercise program and you will receive education focused on the long term management of living with limb absence.

 

Prostheses

At RNOH, you will benefit from the latest advancements in prosthetic technology for both upper and lower limb users. Our highly specialised prosthetists are dedicated to staying current with cutting-edge developments in prosthetic casting, socket design, and componentry. This includes innovative enhancements in cosmetic finish and appearance.

Our services are available to both new prosthetic users and established patients. We offer comprehensive support including the provision, repair and maintenance of prostheses. Additionally, we can upgrade and enhance existing prosthetic devices to better meet your individual needs and goals. Whether you are a community ambulator, or participate in a high level of sport, our team is able to provide you with the prosthesis and the training to succeed.

There are many ways in which a person can achieve independence. We are committed to helping everyone attain the highest level of independence possible, regardless of whether you use a prosthesis or not. Our highly experienced team provide a range of limb absence solutions, including bespoke devices which enhance functionality and facilitate your participation in the activities which you enjoy.
